Something bad happens to you. You start to have a lot of bad thoughts and bad feelings about the bad thing that happened to you. Then you get overwhelmed and go into survival mode. Then the downstairs brain says they are the boss and they turn over the upstairs brain. When the downstairs brain takes over, you can get in trouble because you are acting without thinking.
