King Nebuchadnezzar built a giant, golden statue and forced the people to worship it. If they refused they would be put into a furnace of fire.
Three friends told the King they would only worship God. They were thrown into the fire but protected by a heavenly being in the fire with them.

Led by Helaman, they were known for their unwavering faith, which they attributed to their mothers' teachings that if they did not doubt, God would deliver them. Read D&C 121:1 and explain how Joseph was feeling -
"1 O God, where art thou? And where is the pavilion that covereth thy hiding place?"
Then read 122:9 and explain how he is feeling -
9 Therefore, hold on thy way, and the priesthood shall remain with thee; for their bounds are set, they cannot pass. Thy days are known, and thy years shall not be numbered less; therefore, fear not what man can do, for God shall be with you forever and ever.
He was alone and afraid in the dungeon of the jail in Liberty. Feeling like God had left him.
Then he is reminded that God is with us forever and ever and felt peace
