Why would God require ordinances and covenants when so many people NEVER have the opportunity to receive them?

📖 Doctrine and Covenants 137:7–8

“All who have died without a knowledge of this gospel, who would have received it … shall be heirs of the celestial kingdom of God.”

➡️ This shows that God is fair—He requires ordinances and covenants, but He also makes sure everyone who would have accepted them gets the chance, even if it’s after this life.

How does this revelation strengthen your faith in God's plan of redemption?

“God’s plan is fair, His work never stops, and His redemption includes everyone.”

“This revelation strengthens my faith in God’s plan of redemption because it shows me that His plan is perfectly fair and loving. In Joseph F. Smith’s vision, I see that the Savior didn’t forget anyone—He organized His followers in the spirit world to keep teaching the gospel to people who never had the chance in life. That means ordinances and covenants really do matter, but God makes sure everyone gets the opportunity to accept them, whether here or after death.

What impresses me most is how joyful and willing the Lord’s messengers are—they keep serving even after death, proving that missionary work never stops. It helps me trust that God’s plan includes everyone, and that no one is left out of His family. That makes me want to study the scriptures with more desire, ask questions, and share what I learn, because I know I’m part of that same work of gathering His children.”

What do these three stories have in common when it comes to receiving personal revelation?

A DESIRE to know the truth AND turn to God in FAITH. God answered all of their questions through the spirit.

Personal revelation comes when we sincerely desire truth, turn to God in faith, and endure trials with trust. God always answers—sometimes with peace, sometimes with visions, but always in a way that helps us grow closer to Him.

What changes do you feel inspired to make to your scripture study to receive more personal revelation?

“Ask, Pray, Ponder—then Revelation Comes.”

make my scripture study more personal—like Nephi, I want to ask questions while I read instead of just skimming. Like Joseph Smith, I can pray before and after I study so God can help me understand. And like Joseph F. Smith, I can slow down and really ponder the verses, especially when I’m going through hard times. If I do those things, I’ll be more likely to receive personal revelation."
