Examples

Intuitive....Make Decision->Take Action->Justify
What is Reactive Thinking (System-1)
100
1. Determine your Criteria 2. Categorize the Criteria 3. Weigh your list of WANTs (usually 1-10)
What is Decision Criteria Steps
100
As a practitioner of the Profession of Arms, you’re tasked with the security of our Nation and the protection of our citizens. This is a huge responsibility that shouldn’t be taken lightly. Therefore, you should ensure the decisions you make are founded in logical reasoning, free of hindrances that could cause you to be misled or to mislead others, and are evaluated using a sound process supported by facts.
What is Mission Effectiveness
100
Treating all relevant viewpoints alike. Having a consciousness of the need to treat all viewpoints alike, without reference to one's own feelings or vested interests; adherence to intellectual standards without reference to one's own advantage or the advantage of one's group
What is Fairness
100
Critical thinking is more than thinking _______ it also means thinking _______. A. thoroughly or completely; cognitively or intelligently B. digressively or excursively; rashly or obtusely C. logically or analytically; rationally or objectively D. laboriously or strenuously; energetically or zealously
What is C. logically or analytically; rationally or objectively

Advantages: - Decisiveness when needed - Improved time management - Perceived credibility and reliability
What is Reactive Thinking (Sysytem-1)
200
Alternatives Steps
What is: 1. Locate alternatives 2. Compare your list of Alts to your MUSTs criteria 3. Select the Best Alternative
200
While discussing manpower issues at an AFSO21 event, MSgt Rodriguez asks, "Why is it our additional manning requests never get approved? This process seems to favor the headquarters but penalizes the wing levels!" Trying to understand the various viewpoints of the manning issues at headquarters and wing levels, Rodriguez asks all sorts of questions to determine why his flight is not successful in acquiring additional manning slots. Rodriguez ends the conversation with, "I don't know if favoring the headquarters is the best policy, but I'll support it." With that, the team was able to move on and the event was successful
What is SNCO Effectiveness/ Proficient Critical Thinking
200
Another term for superficial. How does your answer address the complexities in the question? How are you taking into account the problems in the question? Are you dealing with the most significant factors? The statement "Just Say No" treats an extremely complex issue, the pervasive problem of drug use among young people, superficially.
What is depth

CMSgt Thom tells MSgt Mali, "I'm following up on a course of action discussed during our recent AFSO21 event. Because of the wasted time and effort caused by our current printers, we determined the best solution was to order new printers. However, I'm still hearing complaints so I'd like to know what the problem is and why it is taking you so long to get the new printers?" Mali replies, "Chief, I gathered information on what the new printers need to do and some desired features, and after sharing that information with users, I narrowed it down to one model, but I'd like you to look over the specs to make sure I didn't miss anything." The scenario BEST illustrates _________.
What is Decision Analysis
300
Advantage: - Improved critical thinking and problem solving skills - Forced consideration of logical arguments
What is Reflective Thinking (System-2)
300
Use when using System-2 thinking for complex issues. This is the 1st step in the decision analysis process
What is Decision Statement
300
How may SNCOs improve their effectiveness by appropriately using System-1 thinking?
What is They will be perceived as credible & reliable - It will improve their time management - They will make routine decisions more quickly - It will provide them with intuition (gut feelings)
300
Relies heavily on situational cues, prominent memories, and trial and error to arrive quickly and confidently
What is Reactive Thinking (Sysytem-1)
300
Decision Analysis Steps
What is 4 and they are: 1.Decision Statement 2. Decision Criteria 3. Alternatives 4. Risk Analysis
400
Disadvantages: - Mistakes made if used too often - Overlooked details and - Missed improvements
What is Reactive Thinking (System-1)
400
If there is adverse or unintended consequences of your selection. . Helps the decision maker look for anything that could go wrong, plan contingencies in the event something goes wrong, determine how much risk
What is Risk Analysis means
400
You’re charged with developing your people to be better leaders and supervisors...you should be coaching and mentoring them to one day take on the responsibilities that you currently have. This extremely important task may require you to demonstrate some of the Essential Intellectual Traits of Critical Thinking.
What is Subordinate Effectiveness
400
Ambiguity, Assuring Expressions, Meaningless Comparisons, Double speak Jargon, Emotive Content, and False Implications.
Use Of Language
400
Making a claim that Printer A makes better copies than Printer B, while ignoring the important fact that only Printer B can also fax, cop y, and scan
What is Irrelevant Comparisons
500
Disadvantage: - Too much time spent to make a decision - Too much thought put into routine decision - Decreased time mangement
What is Reflective Thinking (System-2)
500
_____ can help you decide your priorities, ____ ____ can help you make a choice against criteria, and ___ __ analysis can help you identify any consequences of the choices you've made.
What is Brainstorming, Rating Sheets and Solution Effect
500
For example, exhibiting Confidence in Reason requires you to encourage your people to think for themselves, as well as, truly believe they are capable of doing just that. Instead of giving them the answer when they come to you, give them a question. Something as simple as “How would you do it?” or “What do you think?” can help them build confidence in their ability to reason in a purposeful way.
What is Subordinate Effectiveness
500
Not mutually supporting and/or contradictory. Does this really make sense? Does that follow from what you said? How does that follow? When the combination is not mutually supporting, is contradictory in some sense, or does not "make sense."
What is Logical
500
During a flight production meeting, MSgt Marley stated his people are always the ones tasked for additional duties such as Honor Guard or Demand Reduction. They explained to him that every time they’re tasked with an additional duty, someone else has to pick up the extra workload while they’re out. MSgt Marley pointed out that while he does understand these duties have to be done, the first sergeant always comes to his section first. He finished by stating, this has to be worked out before my people are burned out! Before the other section leaders could chime in, Chief Twain, the flight superintendent, says, “Have you ever considered why the first sergeant comes to you, MSgt Marley?” MSgt Marley didn’t answer. Chief Twain then said, “Who has the largest section in the flight with the least impact on the daily mission?” MSgt Marley embarrassingly responded, “I do.” The chief ended the conversation by saying, “Good SNCOs are able to look at the overall picture from multiple standpoints instead of just their own. Next time you have a similar concern, first try to consider the entire organizational perspective instead of focusing on your piece of the pie.”
