This bipolar spectrum disorder has only two diagnostic criteria
A. Criteria have been met for at least one manic episode (Criteria A–D under “Manic Episode” above)
B. At least one manic episode is not better explained by schizoaffective disorder and is not superimposed on schizophrenia, schizophreniform disorder, delusional disorder, or other specified or unspecified schizophrenia spectrum and other psychotic disorder.

In the majority of menstrual cycles, at least five symptoms must be present in the final week before the onset of menses, start to improve within a few days after the onset of menses, and become minimal or absent in the week postmenses.

What is a hypomanic episode?
This disorder must be diagnosed between the ages of 6 and 18. It is marked by large temper outbursts in at least two environments that are inconsistent with the developmental level. Temper outbursts occur 3+ times a week. These symptoms must have occurred at least every 3 months for a full year.
What is disruptive mood dysregulation disorder?
This disorder can only be diagnosed after 2 years (1 year in kids/teens), during this time, symptoms must have been present 1/2 the time, and it requires that the full criteria for a hypomanic episode have not been met.
What is Cyclothymic Disorder?
These bipolar disorders don't have any specifiers.
What are unspecified Bipolar and related disorder?
The "with atypical features" specifier applies to these disorders.
What are Bipolar 1, Bipolar 2, Major Depressive Disorder, and Persistent depressive disorder?
This type of episode can be diagnosed after only 4 days. The other two types of episodes require a week and two weeks, respectively.
What is a hypomanic episode?
Criterion A of this disorder or episode requires that 5 or more of the following symptoms have been met and that at least one is 1 or 2.
Depressed mood most of the day, nearly every day
Markedly diminished interest or pleasure in all, or almost all, activities most of the day, nearly every day.
Significant weight loss when not dieting or weight gain.
Insomnia or hypersomnia nearly every day.
Psychomotor agitation or retardation nearly every day.
Fatigue or loss of energy nearly every day.
Feelings of worthlessness or excessive or inappropriate guilt nearly every day.
Diminished ability to think or concentrate, or indecisiveness, nearly every day.
Recurrent thoughts of death (not just fear of dying), recurrent suicidal ideation without a specific plan, or a suicide attempt or a specific plan for committing suicide.

During the period of mood disturbance and increased energy or activity, three (or more) of the following symptoms (four if the mood is only irritable) are present to a significant degree and represent a noticeable change from usual behavior
1. Inflated self-esteem or grandiosity.
2. Decreased need for sleep (e.g., feels rested after only 3 hours of sleep).
3. More talkative than usual or pressure to keep talking.
4. Flight of ideas or subjective experience that thoughts are racing.
5. Distractibility (i.e., attention too easily drawn to unimportant or irrelevant external stimuli), as reported or observed.
6. Increase in goal-directed activity (either socially, at work or school, or sexually) or psychomotor agitation (i.e., purposeless non-goal-directed activity).
7. Excessive involvement in activities that have a high potential for painful consequences (e.g., engaging in unrestrained buying sprees, sexual indiscretions, or foolish business investments).
What is a manic episode and a hypomanic episode?
This disorder is diagnosed if the symptoms of major depressive disorder persist for 2 years with no more than 2 months off at a time.
What is Persistent Depressive Disorder?
This category applies to presentations in which symptoms characteristic of a mood disorder that cause clinically significant distress or impairment in social, occupational, or other important areas of functioning predominate but do not, at the time of the evaluation, meet the full criteria for any of the disorders in either the bipolar or the depressive disorders diagnostic classes and in which it is difficult to choose between unspecified bipolar and related disorder and unspecified depressive disorder (e.g., acute agitation).

What is with mixed features specifier?
This bipolar spectrum disorder requires that the patient meet the criteria for a hypomanic episode and at least one depressive episode. It also requires that the criteria for a manic episode have never been met.

B. One (or more) of the following symptoms must be present:
Marked affective lability (e.g., mood swings; feeling suddenly sad or tearful, or increased sensitivity to rejection).
Marked irritability or anger or increased interpersonal conflicts.
Marked depressed mood, feelings of hopelessness, or self-deprecating thoughts.
Marked anxiety, tension, and/or feelings of being keyed up or on edge.
C. One (or more) of the following symptoms must additionally be present, to reach a total of five symptoms when combined with symptoms from Criterion B above.
Decreased interest in usual activities
Subjective difficulty in concentration.
Lethargy, easy fatigability, or marked lack of energy.
Marked change in appetite; overeating; or specific food cravings.
Hypersomnia or insomnia.
A sense of being overwhelmed or out of control.
Physical symptoms such as breast tenderness or swelling, joint or muscle pain, a sensation of “bloating,” or weight gain.
What is Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder?
This diagnostic disorder category can contain such specifiers as:
1. Recurrent brief depression
2. Short-duration depressive episode (4–13 days)
3. Depressive episode with insufficient symptoms
4. Major depressive episode superimposed on another disorder.
