Placed in plastic instrument bin located in excision room. Taken to dirty supply, rinsed, placed in baggies, sprayed with pre-klenz, sheet completed specifying instruments to be processed, placed back in instrument bin, new label placed on bin and sent down for sterile processing

How do I handle dead batteries? 

Cover the terminals with tape and place in the battery bin in the dirty utility room in hallway D. 

If the bin is full, take it to facilities in the lower level. They have a larger disposal container that is emptied by a contracted service.

How is sterility maintained on the trays once set up?

Covered with sterile drape, door closed, note on door to not enter.

Where must formalin be stored?

Flame resistant box; located in clean supply room in hallway C. Formalin vials cannot be sent down in the tube system.

How is formalin disposed of?

Take the vials to the developmental lab near collaborative care clinic (hospital 2nd floor, center tower, 1st door on the right - hazardous materials placard/diamond on the door). Knock on the door and someone will meet you to take the vial(s).

How do you calibrate the PDL laser?

Turn the laser on, let it warm up, verify 10mm gauge is on handpiece, increase wavelength to 10 on the screen, go through the prompts for the laser to do self calibrate. Remove handpiece from unit, point at wall and click the handpiece button. Replace handpiece back to port.

When do the photobooth lightbulbs get changed out? How can you tell they are nearing the end of their use? 

Lamp hours on the main screen; hours count up and should be replaced between 150-200 hours.

What 2 items must be completed before the surgery takes place? 

Consent form and time out.

What do you do with the 'skin biopsy' instruments after the biopsy is complete? 

Place in sharps bin in exam room.
