What are universal precautions and why do we use them?
Universal precautions are operating under the assumption that all blood and body fluid is potentially infectious. We utilize this to protect both staff and patients from exposure.

NO!
Bins and biohazard waste are placed in the red bags in a cardboard box in the dirty utility room. The red bags are gooseneck tied and the box is taped up. A sticker is placed on the side for stericycle pickup.

*For patients undergoing moderate sedation, labels are checked with the patient prior to the administration of any medications.
*For specimens collected during the procedure the second verification will be done with the staff present in the room.
