The brains of the computer
What is the CPU?
It manages how software uses the hardware of the computer
What is an operating system?
It is millions of websites all linked together
What is the World Wide Web (The Web)?
Usually the C: drive. Can be a hard drive (HDD) or a solid state drive (SSD)
What is the local computer drive?
A set of computers connected for the purpose of sharing resources
What is a computer network?
A form of computer memory used to store working data
What is RAM?
Microsoft Windows
What is the operating system that we use on our computers at ECHS?
It is a global network that communicated using the internet protocol (IP)
What is the internet?
This places stores all of your Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides files online
What is Google Drive?
All computers are connected to a central wiring point: the hub or switch. All information travels through the hub
What is Star Topology?
A type of device that accepts information
What is an input device?
It is composed of bits and bytes
What is binary code?
It is a network and information is only shared within an organization
What is intranet?
Is portable anywhere, but is not a safe storage option
What is a USB (universal serial bus) Stick?
Uses light in glass fibre cables, and is the same technology as the backbone of the internet
What are fibre-optic cables?
A communication system that transfers data between components inside a computer
What is the Bus?
A graphical control element on which on-screen buttons, icons, menus, or other input or output elements are placed
What is a toolbar?
It translates your URL into the appropriate IP addresses
What is the Domain Name System (DNS)?
Is accessible from any ECHS Windows computer and is backed up daily
What is a Windows server drive?

Internet router
What is an input and output device?
A modern interface that allows you to use menus and clickable buttons or icons to start programs, move files, or perform other tasks
What is the GUI (Graphical User Interface)?
Information is broken up into smaller packages called IP packets, the packages are stamped with the IP address of the computer they are being sent to, the packages are passed from router to router until they reach their destination. When they reach the destination the TCP protocol checks the packets, then the IP packets are put back together in the destination computer.
How do computers connect on the internet?
All of my files are in the correct place and I can find them in the proper folders
What is file management?
When two or more PCs are connected and share resources without going through a separate server computer
What is a peer to peer network?
