The sugar that is part of DNA
What is deoxyribose?
What is structural (make up structure of the living things), or functional (helps our body to work properly)?
First step of DNA replication
What is unwind?
The sequence of nucleotide bases on mRNA that would complement the following bases on DNA: A T T C G C A G T
What is U A A G C G U C A
Protein that is part of DNA replication, identify its function.
What is SSB, a single-strand binding protein? It is used for holding the stand of DNA open.
Scientist that discovered base pairs of nucleotides. adenine is paired with thymine (A-T) and cytosine is always paired up with Guanine.
Who is Erwin Chargaff?
There are two steps in making protein, which process is the copying of genetic information from DNA to RNA take place.
What is Transcription?
A section of DNA that determines the sequence of amino acids in a protein.
What is a gene?
What is transfer RNA?
Enzymes that bond nucleotides together
What is ligase?
These special types of proteins help to unzip DNA and match up complementary nucleotide bases during DNA replication and protein synthesis.
What are enzymes?
The three parts of the DNA nucleotide (building block)
What are deoxyribose sugar, phosphate group and nitrogen base?
The names of the 4 nitrogen bases of RNA.
What are Adenine, Cytosine, Guanine and Uracil?
Two identical DNA molecules, each w/1 new strand & 1 old strand.
What is the Semi-conservative replication?
Scientists that produced the first model of the DNA
Who are Watson Crick, and Rosalind Franklin?
Write the DNA in full on the board.
What is Deoxyribonucleic Acid?
Difference of DNA and mRNA.
DNA is double strand, longer, and found in the nucleus.
mRNA is double strand, shorter than DNA, made in the nucleus but transported in the cytoplasm.
Using the codon wheel, what amino acids are used for the following sequence? AUG/AAC/GAC/UAA
What are Methionine, Asparagine, Aspartic Acid, STOP?
Explain the difference between DNA polymerase I and DNA polymerase III.
DNA Polymerase I - Check or proofread new strands and backtracks to correct errors
DNA Polymerase III - bonds (put together) free nucleotides with nucleotides on each template (parent) strand using base pairing rules.
Explain Avery's experiment.
Avery demonstrated that DNA is the substance responsible for heredity. He showed that when he treated the rough strain of Streptococcus pneumoniae with DNA from the smooth strain, the rough strain transformed into the smooth strain, indicating that DNA carries genetic information.
