Name the functions of the following organelles:  Nucleus, Cell Membrane, Mitochondria, and Cytoplasm

Nucleus: controls the functions -brain of cell , “boss”

Cell membrane: layer of fat & protein that protect the cell – the outside – the city limits

Mitochondria: creates energy for cell

Cytoplasm:  jelly like substance that cushions & protects organelles

See answer in labeled cell picture

Identify an organelle that is only present in a plant cell.  Why is it needed for a plant but not for an animal?

Chloroplasts: Chloroplasts are specialized organelles found in all higher plant cells. These organelles contain the plant cell's chlorophyll responsible for the plant's green color and the ability to absorb energy from sunlight. This energy is used to convert water plus atmospheric carbon dioxide into metabolizable sugars by the biochemical process of photosynthesis. In short: Chloroplasts enable the process of photosynthesis.

500

What is the chemical in the chloroplasts that changes the plant to appear green?

Chlorophyll
