The narrator's position in relation to the story being told
What is point of view?
The organized pattern or sequence of events that make up a story
What is plot diagram /plotline?
A struggle for power, property, etc within one's self
What is internal conflict?
The ordered pattern of rhymes at the end of the lines of a poem or verse.
What is a rhyme scheme?
Identify the type of figurative language: "John's answer to the problem was just a Band-Aid, not a solution."
What is a metaphor?
A term or phrase that is used to make a comparison between two things that aren't alike but have something in common (does not use like or as)

Using extreme exaggeration to draw attention to something in a piece of writing.

The part in a story's plotline in which the main conflict in the story is resolved or worked out

Visually descriptive or figurative language, especially in a literary work
What is imagery?
The practice of taking notes whilst one reads a text, passage or poem.
What is annotating?
The way the author feels about the text.
What is tone?
A literary element that evokes certain feelings or vibes in readers through words and descriptions
What is mood?
The most interesting part of the story or play (found at the end).
What is climax?
What two things can you use to look up a word's spelling, its meaning, its pronunciation, or its synonyms?
What are a dictionary and thesaurus?
A group of lines in poetry.
What is stanza?
Identify the figurative language: "Her hair was as soft as a spider web."
What is a simile?
The overall, worldly lesson that can be learned from the story; the lesson in a literary text and often deals with abstract questions, beliefs, or truths
What is theme?
When the author gives hints of something that is going to happen in the future
What is foreshadowing?
The part of the story where characters and setting are established.
What is exposition?
When a piece of literature gives a reference to something else that the author expects the reader to know. (can be Biblical, Historical, or Cultural)
What is an allusion?
Read the following question. "The author creates tension (the problem) at the beginning of the story by --" This is considered what part of a plot diagram?
