A person has uncontrollable worry that is chronic and pervades their entire life
What is Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD)?
Relatively low grade, but chronic depression often lasting for years
What is Persistent Depressive Disorder?
Individual has met the criteria for schizophrenia, however the symptoms have lasted for less than 6 months
What is schizophreniform?
The key feature to this disorder is the presence of emotional or behavioral symptoms in response to an identifiable stressor
What is an adjustment disorder?
Symptoms of delirium that tend to worsen in early evening hours
What is sundowning?
Repetitive behaviors or mental acts that an individual feels driven to perform
What are compulsions?
Grandiosity, decreased need for sleep, more talkative than usual, flight of ideas, distractibility, psychomotor agitation
What is a manic episode?
Perception-like experiences that occur without an external stimulus. Usually sensory or auditory.
What are hallucinations?
Substance intoxication, substance withdrawal and substance/medication induced mental disorders
What are substance-induced disorders?
Diagnosis for a person who has poor self image, marked impulsivity, and is involved in chaotic, unstable relationships
What is borderline personality disorder?
Recurrent unexpected panic attacks
What is a panic disorder?
Specifier for individuals who experience recurrent depressive disorder during a particular time of year
What is "with seasonal pattern?"
Fixed beliefs that are not amendable to change in light of conflicting evidence
What are delusions?
Trauma-Stressor related disorder in which symptoms are restricted to a duration of 3 days to one month following exposure to a traumatic event
What is acute stress disorder?
Feeling detached from, and as if one is an observer of one's mental processes or body
What is depersonalization?
The repeated urge to pull out scalp hair, eyelashes, eyebrows or other body hair
What is trichotillomania?
Criteria has been met for at least one hypomanic episode and at least one major depressive episode
What is Bipolar II Disorder?
Distinct personalities who have unique memories, attitudes, habits that are clearly different from the host individuals
What are alters?
An intense desire or urge for the drug/substance that may occur at any time
What is a craving?
Social isolation, no desire for close relationships and reduced expression of emotions is criteria for this personality disorder
What is Schizoid Personality Disorder?
Individual fears or avoids situations because of thoughts that escape may be difficult or help may not be available in the event of incapacitating or embarrassing symptoms
What is agoraphobia?
The pervasive loss of interest and pleasure in everyday living
What is anhedonia?
Symptoms include psychomotor features such as stupor, catalepsy, waxy flexibility and/or mutism
What is catatonia?
A person experiencing distressing memories and dreams, hypervigilance, and exaggerated startle response may be displaying sxs of this disorder.
What is PTSD?
Person experiences persistent thoughts, urges, or images and engages in repetitive behaviors they feel driven to preform in response to the thoughts/urges. Completing the behaviors are a way to reduce anxiety/distress or to prevent a dreaded outcome.
