No, according to Eagle requirement 5 - "You must use the Eagle Scout Service Project Workbook, No. 512-927, in meeting this requirement".

What is the minimum age to be able to use an electric screwdriver?
What is 14 years old and older. Youth under 14 can use a regular screwdriver, but not a battery operated screwdriver while working on your Eagle Project.

How many merit badges must I earn to become Eagle?
In order to become Eagle, you need 21 merit badges, however you must receive 13 required. Some badges have a choice of 2 merit badges - if you earn both (or all) then one is a required badge and one can be used as an elective.

Why is the Project Report section important?
You spent hours planning your project. Doesn't it make since to show off your completed project that you are proud of? At the Eagle Board of Review, there could be people present that have never met you. The report will help demonstrate to everyone present what you were able to accomplish.

I would like to build a wheelchair ramp for my Uncle's house. Would this qualify as an Eagle Project?
False. Building a ramp for person does not qualify. However building a wheelchair ramp at a church, park, or school would qualify.

Can I start to work on my project whenever I would like?
No. You must obtain the signatures on the Proposal Page E page prior to starting your project. The Scoutmaster, Unit committee, Beneficiary and the District Representative must all sign the Project Proposal prior to starting any work on the project.

I plan on doing a fundraiser (bottle drive/car wash, etc) to help fund the project. Can I do this whenever I would like?
False. Before you start any fundraisers, the fundraiser application must be completed and signed by the beneficiary, unit leader (scoutmaster), and the council representative.After its approved you may start the fundraiser at any time.

How long must you be active in a troop to meet the requirement of active in a troop? What is the troop's definition of being active?
Six month of being active in the troop. Troop 229 defines active as attending 50% of the meetings and 50% of the overnight camps. We understand missing meetings/ overnight camps because of sports or marching band, but just like sports if you don't attend practices will you play on game day? So when your season is done, come back and be part of the team.

Should the proposal be typed?
Would your turn in a paper work 50% of your grade to a teacher hand written? I believe you would type it. This proposal is made to expanded as needed. It is more professional if its typed out, so please make an effort to to type out everything you can. Yes the signatures are hand written, but take the time to type out the rest of your proposal.

What is criteria that a project must include?
The Life Scout must plan and develop and give leadership to others in the service project.

How do you obtain the Unit Committee signature?
When you have an idea for a project, and have meet with the beneficiary and have their approval. Then ask the Committee Chair (Mr. Larsen), for approval to meet with the committee to discuss your project. Be prepared to answer questions about your project. If the project is approved, then the committee chair can sign your project proposal.

Should the Project Plan section of the workbook be completed prior to the meeting with the troop committee?
Part of the Project Plan should be complete, such as the budget. Its not required but will be very useful. Parts can not be completed until after you meet with the council representative. So this section is a tool that can be updated as needed, until you begin the project.

Is the position of Assistant Patrol Leader considered a leadership role?
No. Positions of responsibility are considered: Patrol leader, assistant senior patrol leader, senior patrol leader, troop guide, Order of the Arrow troop representative, den chief, scribe, librarian, historian, quartermaster, junior assistant Scoutmaster, chaplain aide, instructor, webmaster, or outdoor ethics guide.

Tracking the number of hours is important. Why?
As a troop whenever we do a service activity, we need to track the hours and report it to National. As a member of the troop, we need you to track this information. Once you accounted for the hours, provide the importation in the grid to Mrs. Kniaz so she can report it to National.

Can my project be a one man show?
False. Your project must demonstrate leadership. You need to have more then a few family members work on the project.

Is there a particular order to receiving the signatures?
The signatures can be any order, except the Council/District signature must be last. The Troop Committee, would prefer that you have meet with the beneficiary and have their approval prior to meeting with the Troop Committee. Mrs. Kniaz will provide you with the Council/District contact information once the Troop Committee approves the project.

In general , can a youth of any age use a tool, that is not battery operated, such as a rake, shovel, sandpaper?
For the most part that is correct, however youth under 14 can not use a wheelbarrow, or tools like a pickaxe, or post hole diggers. Also for youth to use a pocketknife, they must have the Whittling Chip or the Totin' Chip.

Do you believe you are a role model in the troop?
Yes, As one of the older scouts in the troop you are a role model. The younger scout look up to you. You need to set the example. Remember to live the Oath and Law each day, and make scouting positive for the younger boys.

Are photos important?
Yes. Plan ahead, has someone at the project taking photos of the project. Take photos of the completed project. Be sure to include the photos in the Project Report section of the workbook. Once again be proud of what you were able to accomplish for your project.

Can I do a Blood Drive as my project?
False. Projects can not be "cookie cutter". Projects must meet the "develop and plan" criteria. Projects like blood drives and flag retirements usually follow standard scripts often dictated by the benefiting organization, and thus does not meet the develop and plan criteria.

I need to have a bottle drive or car wash to help fund raise for my project. Can I do this anytime?
No. You have to complete the Fundraising page and obtain signatures, prior to doing the actual fundraiser. When you meet with the Troop Committee you should mention and types of fundraisers, and have the paperwork ready to be signed. This way when you meet with the Council/District Representative, you can have them sign this page. Once you have signatures you can perform fundraisers.

If a scout need to file a permit with the city, who is responsible for filing the paperwork and cover the cost of the fees.
This is the scouts responsibility to look to make sure all permits are files and approved prior to the start of the project.

Before actually starting on any part of your Eagle project, what must be complete first.
All signatures must be received and approved. This includes the scoutmaster, committee, the beneficiary and the council representative.

Does the project have to be the very last item completed for Eagle?
No. At any point as a Life scout you can complete the Eagle Project.
