Retrograde motion in the apparent backwards motion of the planets compared to the stars. The geocentric model does not adequately account for this, since if the planets orbited the Earth their orbit should not include retrograde motion. The heliocentric model, however allows for this apparent motion, due to different relative positions of the planets relative to the Sun
