Explain the theory of plate tectonics in your own words.
Plates are made of lithosphere with oceanic and/or continental crust. Plates move around by seafloor spreading, driven by mantle convection. As the seafloor spreads, oceanic crust is created and pushes the plates away from the continental ridge. If a continent sits on top of a plate that is being pushed away, it will drift away as well.
