The system that includes all living things (plants, trees, animals, humans).
What is the biosphere?
A point in a river or stream where water flows over a vertical drop or a series of steep drops.
What is a waterfall?
This force affects weight.
What is gravity?
How do the geosphere & biosphere interact?
Geosphere is a habitat for animals, geosphere is home to plants (soil). We live on the geosphere.
Water that lies beneath the earth's surface, filling spaces in soil, rocks, and sediment. Flows slowly through porous materials, forming underground reservoirs called aquifers. Accessed through wells or springs.
What is groundwater?
The system that includes rocks, minerals, sediments, etc.).
What is the geosphere?
A landmass that is surrounded by water on three sides. (Bigger than a cape.)
What is a peninsula?
The human activity that uses the most water worldwide.
What is agriculture?
How do the geosphere & hydrosphere interact?
Geosphere depends on water for soil, geosphere is eroded and weathered due to rain, lakes, oceans.
Physical change in matter from a gas to a liquid in the water cycle.
What is condensation?
The system that includes all of the water on, under, or above Earth.
What is the hydrosphere?
Fertile land in a desert fed by springs or wells.
What is an oasis?
What's the difference between the biosphere and the geosphere?
The biosphere contains all living organisms. The geosphere contains non living organisms.
How do the hydrosphere and atmosphere interact?
Once water from the hydrosphere gets heated by the sun, it evaporates up into the atmosphere forming clouds. Once clouds become too full of water vapor and the temperature decreases, they will condense which brings precipitation down back to the hydrosphere.
Are clouds part of the hydrosphere or atmosphere?
Both! (Technically hydrosphere because they are made of water, but they are located in the atmosphere.)
The system that includes all of the layers of gases that surround the earth.
What is the atmosphere?
A pyramidal peak on a mountain carved out by glaciers.
What is a horn?
True or false? The Himalayan Mountains are being formed by deconstructive forces.
What is false! (Constructive forces...Indian tectonic plate moves almost 3 inches north every year, smashing into the Eurasian tectonic plate for 50 million years...still happening today!)
Describe an interdependent relationship with a sphere that you have.
Geosphere- we live on the geosphere
Biosphere- friends, family, plants & animals that we eat.
Atmosphere- We breathe air in the atmosphere, protect from UV rays, protect from meteors
Hydrosphere- water we use to drink, shower, swim in.
This occurs when water flows over the land surface and eventually reaches streams, rivers, and then the ocean. It plays a vital role in carrying nutrients and minerals, as well as shaping the earth's landscape through erosion.
What is runoff?
This sphere is important to Earth's climate because snow and ice reflect heat from the sun, which helps regulate the planet's temperature.
What is the cryosphere?
A long, narrow sea inlet with steep sides or cliffs, created by a glacier.
What is a fjord?
Change in elevation divided by distance.
What is the formula to find the gradient?
When a volcano erupts, how does the ash from the eruption interact with the hydrosphere, atmosphere, and biosphere?
When the ash goes into the atmosphere, it can block sunlight from reaching Earth's surface. No sunlight means that plants can't make their own food - which affects the biosphere. Ash can also go into the water cycle through rain or falling into streams or rivers.
The process by which plants release water vapor into the atmosphere.
What is transpiration?
