Management
The set of strategies used to create and maintain a safe and inclusive space where all students can learn.
Classroom Management
The most important concepts, ideas, or skills I want students to be able to grasp and apply
Lesson Objectives
As older toddlers and young children grow, they can follow _______, demonstrate emerging independence, and adjust to change more easily.
Routines
The "Lower Order Thinking" skills according to Bloom
Remembering, Understanding, Applying
The idea that educators use the documents wisely - reflect on them and modify in their planning and teaching accordingly
Pedagogical Documentation
Named after the American psychiatrist William Glasser, this model was forged from the idea that good behavior comes from good choices. It goes beyond teacher imposed discipline and is for students in classrooms that already have overall “good behavior”.
This model would fit perfectly in a classroom that has adopted morning meetings as part of its SEL curriculum or classroom procedure.
Glasser Model
How the teacher will check whether students know anything about the topic or have any preconceived notions about it
Lesson Introduction
Represents the big picture and includes main activities that happen across the day.
Schedule
The "Higher Order Thinking" skills according to Bloom
Analyzing, Evaluating, Creating
The next part of the cycle after Find Children's interests, plan future activities, and Connect Observations is...
Discuss Documents
This model is based on the use of predetermined and understood consequences for behavior.
Prepare several different ways of explaining the material (real-life examples, analogies, visuals, etc.) to catch the attention of more students and appeal to different learning styles. As you plan your examples and activities, estimate how much time you will spend on each
Specific Learning Activities (Or main body of the lesson)
Let parents know they should also be ______. You can say something like, "Plans change, things happen, but give your child a warning ahead of time if things are going to be different. Let them know what is going to happen."
Flexible
Classifies ways of thinking from lower order to more difficult, higher order skills
Bloom's Taxonomy
By documenting group processes and play, educators learn what
Group Dynamics: How children and gain knowledge on how children work and think together.
This model is a direct and positive approach developed by Lee and Marlene Canter. It states that desirable behaviors should receive positive reinforcement and recognition while on the flip side, undesirable behaviors should receive negative consequences.
When effectively and consistently used, students will begin to associate desired behaviors with rewards which should increase the frequency of these behaviors.
Assertive Discipline
Now that you have explained the topic and illustrated it with different examples, this is how you will know that students are learning
Check for Understanding
These are the steps needed to complete each part of the schedule.
Routines
"How many...?" is an example of what level of questioning?
Remembering
With visible documentation educators as well as children can deepen their understanding, learn from each other’s projects that are displayed in the classroom and appreciate each child’s uniqueness and _______
Learn More About Children's Lives
This model is also called the Fred Jones Model (after its’ creator). It is based on the idea that teachers are most effective when there is a balance of positive student behavior, learner motivation, and an incentive system in place.
Positive Discipline Model
Go over the material covered in class by summarizing the main points of the lesson. You can do this in a number of ways: you can state the main points yourself (“Today we talked about…”), you can ask a student to help you summarize them, or you can even ask all students to write down on a piece of paper what they think were the main points of the lesson.
Conclusion (or Review)
_______ and ________ in the group care setting and at home help children:
Feel in control of their environment
Feel safe, secure, and comfortable
Know what is happening now and what comes next
Know how to do an activity or task
Engage in learning
Schedules and Routines
These learning skills are an example of what level of learning according to Bloom's Taxonomy:
Judge, predict, assess, Determine, prioritize
Evaluating
Determine the topic and question
