Ecology is the study of how organisms interact with one another and with the environment
What role does producers play in energy transfer?
They use energy from the sun to make food

the process when plants use energy from sunlight, carbon dioxide, and water to make sugars
What is the difference between immigration and emigration?
Immigration is when individuals join a population, and emigration is when they leave the population.
What is the relationship between predators and prey?
Predators eat and get energy from the prey; predation
What is a biotic factor?
All living things
What is a decomposer?
An organism that gets energy and nutrients by breaking down the remains of other organisms
What are chloroplasts and what is contained inside of them?
They are the organelles where photosynthesis takes place and contained inside of them is chlorophyl.
What is carrying capacity?
the maximum number of individuals of one species that the environment can support
What is mutualism?
a symbiotic relationship in which both organisms benefit
What is an abiotic factor?
Nonliving things
What is a consumer?
An organism that eats other organisms
What is glucose?
A sugar that stores energy
What is the limiting factor?
A part of the environment that keeps a population's size at a level below its potential
What is commensalism?
A symbiotic relationship in which one organism benefits while the other is unaffected.
How do species and communities relate?
A community is made up of all of the different species.
What are the different types of consumers?
Herbivore, carnivore, and omnivore

the process of breaking down food to produce ATP
What is competition?
When two or more individuals or populations try to use the same limited sources

a symbiotic relationship in which one organism benefits and another is harmed

Climate conditions, and communities of living things
What is the difference between a food chain and a food web?
A food chain is the path of energy transfer, and a food web is the feeding relationships among organisms.

What is the difference between competition and cooperation?
Competition is when two individuals fight against each other, and cooperation is when individuals work together

Among communities through individuals in the same species and individuals in different species.
