How are a hawk and an owl able to succeed, even though they compete for food?

hurts one organism and helps another
What impact does a parasite have in an ecosystem?

A. an earthquake
Which would cause an ecosystem to change quickly? A. an earthquake B. a lake drying up C. a climate change D. a lake becoming a marsh

C. No animal or plant drives out other animals and plants
Which describes a balanced ecosystem? A. There is enough food for people to exist B. One type of animal and plant depend on each other C. No animal or plant drives out other animals or plants D. Humans create shelter and food for animals and plants

The desert was once a sea or lake.
What could scientists tell from a fish fossil found in a desert?

Parasites live on another organism called a host. The parasite uses the host as a source of food and harms the host.
Explain the relationship between parasites and hosts?
200
a change in the kinds of plants and animals
What might be the effect on an ecosystem of a climate change from rainy to dry?

More foxes that eat rabbits
A meadow has too many rabbits. What would help balance this ecosystem?

C. Its habitat is destroyed
What might be a reason an animal becomes extinct? A. It is a predator B. It produces oxygen C. Its habitat is destroyed D. It adapts to its environment

A flood can completely change an ecosystem quickly. For example, the water might make the grass die, which would mean the animals that eat the grass would move to another place or die, and the animals that prey on those animals would also move or die.
How could a flood affect an entire ecosystem?

The number of foxes would decrease
How would an ecosystem change if the rabbits that were the main prey for foxes became sick and died?

Mining companies can replace the soil
How can damage from strip mines be repaired?

What is one way people can disturb the balance of ecosystems?

to preserve nature's beauty and habitats of plants and animals

Their needs are met in that environment
Why do chipmunks in the Great Smoky Mountains survive?

Tara is right because of the process of succession. A lake begins with no living things, and then soil is carried into the lake. The soils adds organisms that help the lake support small plants. Animals come to eat the plants, and the lake gradually fills with soil. It becomes a marsh, and when the marsh dries up, a forest grows.
Harry and Tara are hiking in a forest. Tara tells Harry that the forest was probably a lake at one time. Harry doesn't believe it. Explain why Tara is right.
