Anything Goes
100
This is made up of all the living and non-living things that interact in one place.
What is an ecosystem?
100
Large group of similar ecosystems.
What is a biome?
100
Describes how energy in an ecosystem flows from one organism to another.
What is a food chain?
100
Grass and other plants. They make up the first link in most food chains.
What are producers?
100
This biome has long, severe winters and short, cool summers.
What is taiga?
200
Group of living things found in an ecosystem.
What is a community?
200
The type of weather that occurs in an area over a long period of time.
What is climate?
200
Shows how food chains combine in an ecosystem.
What is a food web?
200
Break down decaying remains of dead producers and consumers.
What are decomposers?
200
The three zones of marine biomes, in order.
What are the intertidal zone, the near-shore zone and the open-ocean zone?
300
All members of the same type of organism living in an ecosystem.
What is a population?
300
The six biomes in the order we learned them (by power pegging).
What is tropical rain forest, temperate rain forest, grasslands and deserts, taiga and tundra, marine biome and freshwater biome?
300
What is the importance of materials cycling through the environment?
Cycling allows materials to be used over and over again without being used up. These materials are always available to new organisms.
300
Compare a producer to a consumer.
Producers use sunlight to make food. Consumers eat other organisms.
300
Name three non-living things found in a pond ecosystem.
What are water, air, sunlight or soil?
400
What would happen to roseate spoonbills if they were moved to a deep resevoir?
They would have a hard time finding enough to eat because the water would be too deep for them to wade in.
400
Earth's coldest biome.
What is tundra?
400
How do consumers and producers interact in an ecosytem?
Producers serve as food for consumers.
400
These populations in an energy pyramid have the most energy available to them?
What are producers?

If you wanted to show energy flow in an ecosystem, would it be best to use a food chain or a food web? Explain.
It would be best to use a food web because it shows all the ways that energy can flow. It is much more complete than a food chain. A food chain only shows one way that the energy can flow.
500
What might happen if one population in an ecosystem dissappeared? Explain.
The other populations would be affected. For example, if a population of mice dissappeared, the population of snakes, which depends on the mice for food, might decrease. At the same time, the population of certain plants, whose seeds are no longer eaten by the mice, might increase.
500
Where most tropical rain forests are located.
What is near the equator?
500
What would happen to an ecosystem if a drought killed half the plants that lived there?
Many other organisms would die because fewer plants mean less energy at the bottom of the energy pyramid.
500
Give one example each of a producer, herbivore, carnivore, omnivore and decomposer.
Possible answers: producer - tree, grass herbivore - rabbit carnivore - wolf omnivore - human decomposer - mushroom
