Cadence Has a Policy on POTENTIAL PARENT VISITS in regards to TEACHERS: True or False
TRUE:
Teachers are the spotlight of all our programs. When families come to tour, they want to meet you and make a quick connection before feeling comfortable enough to leave their child in your care. Here is where first impressions really count! Please use the following guidelines during all tours of our school. Remember that all employees must greet any perspective family, even if you are covering in a room that is not your own. When a manager comes into your classroom with a tour, please walk over and introduce yourself. Shake the parent’s hand, tell them your name and let them know if you are the teacher, assistant teacher, teacher covering for lunch break, etc. Listen for the parent and child’s name when you are being introduced. Remember their names! If the visit is for a spot in your classroom, ask the child if they want to join you at circle, project, snack, etc. Offer to show the parents the cubbies, mailboxes, curriculum, daily schedule, and explain your learning centers. Focus on our curriculum and some important milestones or projects the children in your classroom are working on. If you are in the middle of helping a child in the bathroom or changing a diaper, please continue what you are doing but please acknowledge the parent and child verbally. Let them know what you are doing: “Hi, I’m just changing Joey’s diaper” or “Hello, Susie and I are just using the potty”. Human Resources Cadence Education, Inc. January 2020 60 If a child is crying in your classroom when a tour comes in, explain to them why the child is crying. For example, “Hi, nice to meet you, Jack is just a little sad because ….. He wanted to use the truck, or his mommy just said goodbye, or today is his first day.” Please be positive as many of the reasons children cry are developmentally appropriate. Then take the focus off the crying by saying hello to the touring family and asking if they have any questions about your classroom. As they leave the room, ask the parents if they have any other questions. Tell the child that you hope they can come back and play with you another day. Make sure to use their names when you say goodbye. Please refer to our Director/School Principal if you have any questions regarding prospected parents visiting your classroom.
