Many people believe that recess is just a break, but I think students should have longer recess every day. First, longer recess helps students stay active, which keeps their bodies healthy. When students sit for too long, they get tired and unfocused, but running and playing helps wake up their brains. Second, longer recess can improve students’ behavior. When kids have enough time to play and release energy, they come back to class calmer and ready to learn. Finally, longer recess supports stronger friendships. When students have more time outside, they can work together, solve problems, and build social skills that help them in and out of school. For these reasons, it’s clear that students would benefit from having more recess time each day.

  1. What is the author’s claim?

  2. What are the three reasons the author gives to support the claim?

The author claims that students should have longer recess every day.

Reason 1: Longer recess helps students stay active and keeps their bodies healthy.
Reason 2: Longer recess can improve students’ behavior by letting them release energy.
Reason 3: Longer recess helps students build stronger friendships and social skills.
