Read the poem and answer the question.

Leisure

What is this life if, full of care,
We have no time to stand and stare?

No time to stand beneath the boughs
And stare as long as sheep or cows.

No time to see, when woods we pass,
Where squirrels hide their nuts in grass

No time to see, in broad daylight,
Streams full of stars, like skies at night.

No time to turn at Beauty’s glance,
And watch her feet, how they can dance.

No time to wait till her mouth can
Enrich that smile her eyes began.

A poor life if, full of care,
We have no time to stand and stare.

For a full, healthy and useful life, sports are as important and necessary as work. They help us mentally, physically and emotionally, and help us to develop a healthy outlook toward life. Sports are very useful as a diversion for the mind. Most sports need skill and good judgment. Players not only develop their bodies but also develop their minds. Players must acquire the art of playing a game.

Sports develop our character. The players have to abide by the rules of the game. Any departure from these rules means foul play. Every foul stroke in a game involves a penalty. Therefore, players play a fair game. Fair play is a noble moral quality. Players become honest and punctual.

Sports develop the competitive spirit in a player. Defeat does not dishearten true athletes. They do not feel over-excited if they win a match. They should learn to take both victory and defeat in stride. Sports also teach us team spirit. Nearly all sports are team sports. A selfish player cannot score a goal. The captain is always to be obeyed. Sports also develop the quality of leadership. Sports make us broad-minded. A good player might get many opportunities to visit other countries. Sports contribute to the strength of a nation.

The Orange

Even though no one knows exactly where oranges come from, Southeast Asia is believed to be their first home. They are grown today in most of the warmer parts of the world. The ancient Greeks and Romans knew about oranges. It is possible that oranges were carried from India to Western Asia, and then to Europe.

The Spaniards took the sour oranges to the West Indies and from there to Florida, in America. Today, oranges are the most important fresh fruit in international trade. There are three different kinds of oranges: the sweet or common orange, the mandarin orange, and the sour or bitter orange.

One type of sweet orange is called the blood orange. It has a pulp with a deep red color. This type of orange is grown mostly in the Mediterranean region. Mandarin oranges are mainly found in Florida. Sour oranges are grown almost everywhere with Spain having the greatest number used for trade. These sour oranges are generally used to make marmalade.

However, they can be put to many other interesting uses, from making medicine to creating perfumes.

Oranges have many medicinal values. Oranges are the fruit with the greatest concentration of vitamin C. The skin of the orange helps to keep the fruit inside from becoming damaged and to remain clean. The thick, oily, and bitter skin does not allow any insects to get into an orange. Many kinds of useful oils can be extracted from the thick skin. Oranges are healthy and delicious.

Salmon

A fish that is a great favorite with people is salmon. It begins its life in a small pool up a river. Far from the sea, the fish lays its eggs in a pool in the river. When the baby fish are a few inches long, they begin to swim down the river. As they grow bigger, they make their way toward the sea.

They jump over rocks, often with their tails first. Suddenly, they find themselves in the sea. The fish live in the sea for three years. They swim far away from land. How do they find their way back? These fish have a wonderful sense of smell. They remember the scent of their journey easily because the river flowed to the sea and carried them there. After three years, most salmon swim toward the pools.

As soon as they reach a pool, the females lay their eggs. They lay their eggs near the edge of the water and cover them with sand. Soon the eggs hatch, and the pool is full of small fish, getting ready for the long journey out to the sea.

Katie stood before the crowd blushing and wringing her hands. She looked out and saw the room full of faces. Some she knew, and some she did not. But, they were all here to listen to her. Taking a deep breath, she opened her mouth, but no words came out. Tears formed in the corners of her eyes as she closed them.

With her eyes closed, she imagined her mother helping her get dressed and ready for tonight. "Just do your best," is what her mother had told her. She opened her eyes and found her mother's smiling face in the crowd. Relaxing, she took another deep breath and started singing. She did not stop until she finished, and the crowd was on their feet applauding.

After the show, she found her parents and her friends. They all had wonderful things to say about her song and how proud they were because she kept going even when it seemed like she might give up. She shrugged her shoulders and shared a smile with her mother. "I just did my best," she answered.

Winston Churchill and Franklin D. Roosevelt

In the mid-20th century, two influential politicians, Winston Churchill and Franklin D. Roosevelt, forged a historic relationship that shaped the course of World War II and global politics. Winston Churchill, Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, and Franklin D. Roosevelt, President of the United States, formed a strong alliance during a time of immense global turmoil. Their collaboration was pivotal in leading the Allied powers to victory against the Axis forces. Both leaders gave inspiring speeches and their steadfast leadership bolstered British and American morale during the darkest days of the war. Roosevelt's diplomatic skill and strategic vision helped navigate the complexities of wartime alliances.

The relationship between Churchill and Roosevelt extended beyond military strategy to encompass shared ideals of democracy and freedom. Both leaders recognized the importance of cooperation between nations in maintaining peace and promoting prosperity after the war. Their joint efforts led to the creation of the United Nations, an international organization aimed at fostering dialogue and preventing future conflicts. This collaboration between Churchill and Roosevelt laid the foundation for a post-war world order based on principles of collective security and human rights.

Furthermore, Churchill and Roosevelt's personal rapport played a crucial role in strengthening the Anglo-American alliance. Despite their differing backgrounds and political systems, they developed a mutual respect and friendship that transcended national boundaries. Their frequent correspondence and face-to-face meetings, such as the famous conferences in Casablanca and Yalta, showcased their ability to find common ground and make tough decisions together. Through their partnership, Churchill and Roosevelt demonstrated how political leaders can work together effectively to confront global challenges and advance shared values.
