What is a hyperbole?
The author's attitude toward the subject
What is tone?
The giving of clues to hint at something still to come.
What is foreshadowing?
The events following the climax of a story.
What is falling action?
A piece of literature in which the author is also the subject of the story.
What is an autobiography?
Applies human characteristics to non-human things.
What is personification?
Time, place, duaration of the story
What is the setting?
A return to an earlier time in a story to give prior information.
What is flashback?
The events that build up the conflict.
What is Rising Action?
Literature written to be performed.
What is a drama?
A comparison not using like or as.
What is a metaphor?
The feeling that the story creates in the readers through words and sensory details.
What is mood?
The implication that the actual situation is quite different than that represented.
What is irony?
The most intense moment in a story.
What is climax?
Literature defined by stanzas and lines. Typically rhymes, but does not always.
What is poetry?
Words that mimic the sound they are describing.
What is onomatopoeia?
The way an author describes the characters in a story.
What is characterization?
The use of concrete things to represent ideas.
What is symbolism?
The stage of plot where the characters, conflict, and setting is introduced.

Literature which plot cannot occur in the real world. Typically contains witchcraft or magic.
