Introducing Yourself
Step #1 is to “decide if you want to meet someone.”
What do you typically look for in someone you WANT to meet?

Why should you GIVE compliments?
To build relationships with others.
What does it mean to “suggest”?
To give or share an idea.
What does it mean to “negotiate”?
To reach an agreement.
Step #2 is to “decide if it’s a good time.”
Name at least 1 GOOD vs. BAD time to introduce yourself.

Why should you ACCEPT compliments?
To make others happy.
Should you try to suggest an activity that only you like OR that others will also like?
Suggest an activity that others will also like.
Why is negotiating an important skill?
It builds perspective-taking, which is to see & understand things in different ways.
Step #3 is to “walk up to the person.”
Why SHOULDN’T we get too close or be too far from the person?
• Too close → Personal space is important
• Too far → We need to be able to see & hear the other person
What can you compliment about others?
• Appearance
• Behaviors
• Skills
• Achievements
Expected or Unexpected: Juno suggests to play a round of UNO even though she knows Jeni doesn’t enjoy UNO.

Step #4 is to “introduce yourself.”
What should you say when you introduce yourself?
Your name, role, etc.
Brainstorm compliments using the following starters:
• “I like how you …”
• “Thank you for …”
• “You’re a great …”
• “You make me happy when …”
• “You have nice …”

Step #5 is to “wait for the other person to introduce themself.”
What should you do if they don’t introduce themself?
Ask them “What is your name, role, etc.?”

Name at least 1 EXPECTED vs. UNEXPECTED way to accept compliments.
