Tell me what a series circuit is.

What is: A circuit that has only one path for electric charges to follow.

100

What is the difference between renewable energy and non-renewable energy?

Renewable- more of our natural resources, don't run out of them

Non-renewable- resources that run out eventually and aren't good for the environment.

100

How many different kinds of particles are found in an atom?

3

100

The flow of electric charges along a path is called...

Electric current

100

Opposites___________ and like charges ______________.

attract, repel

200
What is a parallel circuit?

What is: A circuit with several different paths for the charges to follow.

200

Name one non-renewable resource and two renewable resources.

Non-Renewable- coal, oil, fossil fuels

Renewable resources- water, wind, sun

200

What are atoms?

The building blocks of all matter.

200

A device that changes electrical energy into mechanical energy

electric motor

200

Show me all the motions that we learned that show the different charges of electrons, protons, and neutrons.

Protons- positive

Neutrons- neutral

Electrons- negative

300

What is the difference between an open and closed circuit?

What is: open circuit: there is a break in the circuit, the switch is up, a wire is not connected, etc.

Closed Circuit: A complete circuit, with no breaks.

300

Give me an example of any energy transformation that starts with electrical energy.

Lamp- electrical into light

Fan- Electrical into noise and light

Toaster- Electrical into heat

300

Name the 3 different particles in an atom.

Protons, neutrons, electrons

300

Materials can either allow electricity to flow through them easily or resist the flow of electricity. Which two vocabulary words describe these things?

Conductors and insulators

Which is which?

300

What is static electricity?

A buildup of electric charges.

Emilia is creating a circuit in her classroom. She has a battery, some wire, a switch, and a light bulb. She puts both ends of the wire on the negative side of the battery. Everything is connected and the switch is down. When she finishes completing her circuit, the light bulb doesn't light, why not?

Both ends of the wire are placed on the negative side of the battery when one end of the wire needs to be on the positive side of the battery and the other end of the wire needs to be connected to the negative side of the battery.

In a fan, there is an electric motor which allows the blades in the fan to rotate and for the fan to turn. Billy Bob says that the energy to make the fan move comes from the electric motor. Is he correct? Why or why not?

No, he is not correct. The energy comes from the electricity coming from the outlet which then makes the motor move. The motor would not move without the electricity.

400

Tell me where to find each of the three particles in the atom.

Protons- Nucleus

Neutrons- Nucleus

Electrons- Electron cloud

400

What is an electromagnet?

A device in which current produces magnetism.

400

The flow of charge, or current, is measured in units called...

amps

500

What would the charge of an atom be that has 14 protons, 23 electrons, and 5 neutrons?

-9

500

A magnet is an object that attracts iron and a few other metals. The magnetic forces on a magnet are strongest around....

The poles- north and south.

500

What is the final charge on an object that started with a charge of -300 and lost 525 electrons?

+225
