What are the 2 poles of a magnet?
North & South
What are 3 examples of electricity that you have encountered today?
Any correct answer is accepted

What is the difference between kinetic energy and potential energy?
Kinetic: Energy in MOTION
Potential: stored energy/energy from gravity (energy at rest)
What is Ms. Moser's first name?
Jessica
What will attract to a north pole and what will repel from a north pole?
Attract: North and South
Repel: North and North
What is an electric field?
The invisible area around a charged particle where the electric force is present
What are the 3 main elements needed to build a circuit?
(1) Power Source (battery)
(2) Something to carry electricity (wire)
(3) Something to use electricity (light bulb)
What 2 factors affect the kinetic energy of an object?
Mass and speed
Who teaches 8th grade math
Ms. Shade
What does an object have to be made out of in order to be magnetic?
Iron, Nickel or Cobalt
What 2 things affect the strength of an electric field?
(1) The total amount of electric charge
(2) Distance between 2 objects
What will happen if I create a circuit that is just wires connected to the ends of a battery?
You could start a fire
What 2 factors affect an objects POTENTIAL energy?
Object's heigh and mass
When was ECMS first opened?
2017
Explain how certain species use magnets to migrate.
The Earth is a large magnet meaning the Earth has a magnetic field that some species can sense. They use the field to navigate, and this can help certain species when they are migrating.
Explain why you can stick a balloon to the wall after rubbing it on your hair.
(1) Negatively charged particles (electrons) go from your hair to the balloon
(2) The balloon is now negatively charged because of the extra negative particles (electrons)
(3) This causes the balloon to be attracted to the positive particles in other objects (like the wall) causing them to stick together
What is the difference between a parallel circuit and a series circuit?
Parallel: 2 or more paths for electrons to travel along
Series: 1 path
On a rollercoaster, when would an object have the HIGHEST POTENTIAL energy and when would an object have the HIGHEST KINETIC energy?
- at the top? at the bottom?
Highest potential: At the top of the hill (potential energy is determined by mass and height)
Highest Kinetic: at the bottom of the hill (its velocity is the greatest at this point)
How many students attend ECMS
About 350
Explain what a temporary magnet is and give an example of one
Temporary magnet is a magnet that does not always have magnetic properties but can be given magnetic properties by connecting it to a permanent magnet. It can also be easily turned into a permanent magnet.
Ex: Iron Nail
How are electric forces similar to magnetic forces?
(1) Follow the rules "opposites attract, same repel" (2) Have an invisible field where their force is present
(3) Strength of the forces depend on distance and number of magnets/charged particles
Draw on the board a circuit diagram that shows a parallel circuit with 1 light on and 1 light off
See Answer Key from Ms. Moser
What does the Law of Conservation of Energy state?
That although energy is always transferring form one form to another, energy is not created or destroyed.
Paraphrased: The total energy in a system is the total of its KINETIC + POTENTIAL. While the amount of potential and kinetic may change, the total energy in the system will NOT change
What is the name of the ECMS mascot?
SERGE
