Metaphor
A metaphor is a direct comparison of two things—“the tree is a giant,” for example.
The main character who generates the action of a story and engages interest and empathy.

Exposition
is the first part of a story in which the characters and the setting are introduced.
Onomatopoeia
the use of words that imitate the sounds associated with the objects or actions to which they refer.

Flat Character
The two-dimensional character's journey is often described as having a flat arc, meaning they don't change from the beginning of the story to the end. They also usually lack complex personality traits
Personification
giving human attributes to nonhuman objects.
ie. The car coughed, hacked, and spluttered
The moment the main conflict in the story begins. Something disturbs or interrupts the main character’s life or actions.

A character that does not change
Oxymoron
Is a figure of speech in which apparently contradictory terms appear in Conjunction.
ie. She is being awfully nice
Climax
The turning point in the story
Alliteration
is the occurrence of the same letter or sound at the beginning of adjacent or closely connected words.
ie. She sells seashells
Dynamic Character
Dynamic characters change throughout a story. They could learn a lesson or change as a person.
Anaphora
The deliberate repetition of a word or phrase at the beginning of successive clauses
ie. This land, this home, this place is important
Resolution
The Conclusion of the story, All loose ends are wrapped up
Hyperbole
is an exaggeration that's not meant to be taken literally.
ie. I’ve been waiting a billion years for this
Round Character
refers to a character in a fictional work with depth or a complex personality. This character type seems lifelike to readers because they learn many details about them, such as their history, thoughts, emotions and personality traits
Foreshadowing
is the technique of hinting at future events in a story using subtle parallels, usually to generate more suspense or engage the reader's curiosity
What pushes the plot along, building tension to keep us invested in the story as it moves forward.
