No-one knew where Sam’s phone had gone. Jenny thought she last saw it on the table in the restaurant. This was so typical of Sam, she thought. He was so scatterbrained. Jonas hadn’t been paying attention to Sam’s movements at all; he was too busy texting his mother, who was demanding to know why Jonas hadn’t been home to walk the dog yet. Damian had been so busy fixing his glasses and wondering if he’d have time to go to the optometrist before closing that he had barely touched his smoothie, let alone taken stock of where Sam had set down his phone. Would he have to buy new glasses again?
