Elements of Fiction
Part where the story where the conflict begins to develop. The majority of the story occurs in this part.
What is the rising action?
The struggle between a character and something outside the character.
What is external conflict?
The character is telling the story. Pronouns you will see are "I, Me, Us, We".
What is first person point of view?
The author wants to amuse the reader or make them laugh with a story.

The struggle or problem in a story

The turning point when the action reaches a peak and the conflict is at its greatest tension.
What is the climax?
The conflict is within the characters mind.
What is internal conflict?
The narrator is telling the story. You will see"they, he, she, him, her, them" as pronouns.

The author wants to provide the reader with information about something.
What is inform?
It is the time and place at which the events of the story happen.
What is the setting?
THe beginning of the story. Sets the stage for the story. Characters are introduced, the setting is described , and the conflict begins to unfold.
What is the exposition?
The main character in a work of literature. The hero.
What is the protagonist?
Characters that change dramatically in a story. THe go from happy to frustrated to sad to happy in the story.
What are dynamic characters?
The author wants to convince the reader to do something.
What is persuade?
The sequence of events in a story.
What is the plot?
the events that follow the climax. No more conflicts are introduced. The conflict is beginning to be resolved.
What is falling action?
The vantage point from which a story is told.
What is the point of view?
Characters that do not change dramatically or at all in a story.
What are static characters?
The author gives us steps for doing something or tells the reader how to do something.
What is explain?
The moral or lesson the author wants the reader to learn.
What is the theme?
Loose ends are tied up.
What is the resolution?
The character that is against (or opposes) the protagonist.
What is the antagonist?
The reason an author chooses to write a story
What is the author's purpose?
THe author uses the five senses to tell about an object, place, or experience.
