What is ethos?
The style or type of media used to convey the rhetor's argument.
What are genres & modes?
Headlines that make you angry, pictures of sad animals, "this will make you feel better"
What are examples of pathos?
The person or people making the argument
What is the rhetor?
This appeal persuades through emotion.
What is pathos?
All the factors surrounding and affecting the rhetorical situation (E.g. current events, the relationship between the rhetor and audience, prior knowledge)
What is context?
Statistics, if-this-then-that statements, hard evidence
What are examples of logos?
The person or people receiving the argument
This appeal persuades with reasoning or logic.
What is logos?
The rhetor's motivation, the reason they are motivated to make their argument.
What is exigence?
Celebrity endorsements, influencer brand deals, expert opinions
What are examples of ethos?
This is what the rhetor is trying to accomplish with their argument.
What is purpose?
This appeal uses timeliness or time limits and deadlines to persuade.
What is kairos?
This is the format/style we must use for our unit 2 rhetorical analysis project.
