If a patient mentions that they don't have a photo ID and they want to know how that will affect them:
If they do not have insurance and plan to be self pay:
Let the patient know that it shouldn't cause an issue for the first visit, and then the office will discuss with them if and when an ID would be needed moving forward
If they do have insurance:
They will need to bring their physical photo ID with them (not a picture of their ID). The ID will need to be state or federally issued and valid (not expired)
If they do not have a valid photo ID:
They will need to bring with them their birth certificate and/or social security card along with some sort of utility bill/other bill with their name and address on it
If they cannot provide any of these things, we are unable to bill their insurance
If they say that they do not have an insurance card, advise the patient that they can reach out to their insurance company to get the member number/subscriber ID
