If the resident is coherent and safe, then the situation is done (inform your supervisor in a duty log, weekly report,1:1, etc...). If the resident is unsafe, incoherent, showing other signs of alcohol poisoning, or is being uncooperative call Campus Safety.

What is shovel? For accessibility purposes, it's important entrances/exits and steps are cleared/visible for our residents. Physical Plant ends shoveling around 6pm and begins around 4-5am, please be mindful of the in-between.

What is get the right people/resource involved? Remember, you are not responsible for solving, fixing, mending, etc... Your role is to get the right resources involved. It's also helpful to isolate the situation and keep calm.

What is ensure everyone is safe (no signs of alcohol poisoning), ask them to put all the alcohol in the middle of the room and take a picture, gather names/ID numbers, have them dispose of the alcohol (don't touch it!), and document the situation? Call Campus Safety if the students are uncooperative, if there's a health concern, or if the situation is too big (ie... too many people, drugs, room needs to be searched).

The college understands that the potential for disciplinary action may deter students from seeking needed medical assistance, either for themselves or others, as the result of the over consumption of alcohol. This is what follow up looks like for the student.

What is the student receives a Medical Exception for Alcohol and will not face formal disciplinary action (provided that the student has not engaged in any other student conduct violations that warrant disciplinary action). The student will be required to meet with a professional staff member in Student Development to process the incident and learn from it.
