Our feelings are important because they help us deal with things that happen every day.
True! Our feelings help us experience things as enjoyable and pleasant (think: happy, excited, surprised) and alert us if something doesn't "feel right" or is not safe (think: embarassed, nervous, anxious).
Anxiety is the uneasy feeling you get when you are worried about something that may or may not happen. When you are anxious, what is one thing you can do that might help you feel better?
Do something to take your mind off your worries (this can be anything you like: play a game, spend time with your pet, go for a bike ride, read a book, draw, listen to music)
Try to calm your worries by using positive self-talk ("I can do this", "it will be okay")
Calm your body by thinking about and visualizing (making a picture in your head) your favorite place.
Calm your body and thoughts by trying to relax--relax your muscles (tighten and relax, use a squish/stress ball), control your breathing (count to 5, hold then exhale, blow bubbles).
What could you say to show empathy? Your friend forgot his/her homework at home and is upset.
There are a lot of ways to show empathy. Here are a couple ideas:
Reassure them that everyone forgets things sometimes.
Share ideas of how to take responsibility (what to tell your teacher, how to ask what to do)
Offer to help them talk to your teacher.

You won 2nd place at a tournament that you participated in (chess, sports, spelling, etc). How would you and your teammates feel?
You might feel happy, relived, excited. You could also feel something like disappointment or frustration.
