What is a job interview?

A job interview is an interview consisting of a conversation between a job applicant and a representative of an employer which is conducted to assess whether the applicant should be hired.


The person sitting behind you keeps tapping your chair with his foot. What should you do?

Using appropriate tone and volume, ask them if they can stop.


Why is it important to make eye contact, look in the direction, or turn your body toward the person you are talking to?

It lets a person know that you are talking directly to them.


Why is it important to wear a helmet when riding a bike?

A helmet protects your head and keeps you safe.


What is an activity that you can do outside this summer?

Hike, take a walk, go to the pool, play basketball, etc.


What skills help you be successful on the job?

Communication, Team work, flexibility, problem solver, etc.


You don't have a ride to work or school tomorrow. How could you fix this problem?

You could call a family member or friend to take you or plan to ride public transportation.


Why is it important to be careful what you say in email or text?

The things you say in text and email, you can't take it back. Also, you want to make sure the other person understands what you are saying when you use abbreviations like idk, lol, btw, lmk


Why is it important to check the expiration date on food before eating it?

Some foods spoil or might have mold, those things can make you sick if you eat them.


What is a place you'd like to visit over the summer?

Answers will vary. Example - restaurant, store, family, farmers market, etc.


Why is it important to learn to be flexible at work?

Things often change at work or you could be asked to do something different at any time.


You see a few friends at McDonald's and want to see if you can join them at their table. What could you say?

You might say, "Hey, it's good to see you guys. Mind if I sit down with you all?"

What is nonverbal communication and why is it important?

It is how others perceive you through how you look with your body language and eye contact. People gather thoughts about you through your body language.


Why should you obey safety/road signs when you are out walking or riding your bike?

Signs keep us safe and let us know when it is safe to cross the road.


What is something that you can do to help at home?

Various chores - taking out the trash, cleaning room, sweeping, etc.


What are some ways that you can explore career options?

Research on the computer, take career inventory tests, do observations or ask questions to people who work in that field.


David woke up late for work and decided that he wouldn't go, but he didn't let his boss know. Why is this a problem?

Because you should never not show up for your job without telling your boss or manager.


What does it mean to be an active listener?

The ability to focus on the speaker, understand what they are saying, and respond appropriately. This skill uses both verbal and non-verbal techniques.


You see something walking around the park that looks a little suspicious. It seems like they could be following you. What should you do?

Run, yell and tell an adult.

What are some things you could try to read this summer?

Books, magazines, signs in the community, articles on the internet.


Solving problems on the job is important. What can you do to be a good problem solver?

Determine the problem, think of solutions, talk to others, make an informed decision, and then analyze if the solution worked

You ask to borrow your friends computer to complete an assignment at school. You drop the computer and break the screen, what should you do?

Be truthful about what happened and offer to pay to replace the screen.


What is self-advocacy and why is it important?

Self-advocacy is the ability to speak up for yourself. It's the ability to identify your needs, communicate them clearly, and help others understand how they can support you.


Why is it important to be careful when using social media and adding friends?

People could be lying about who they are. Be careful of scammers and links.


What are some activities that you can do to reduce screen time over the summer?

Examples: Go outside, go for a walk, read a book, hang out with a friend, volunteer at a food bank, play a sport, etc.
