Triggered by stress/infections, severe hypotension, extreme weakness, hypoglycemia risk, hyponatremia, hyperkalemia, shock
What is Addisonian Crisis?
Adrenal cortex hypofunction, low cortisol, low aldosterone and often caused by an autoimmune destruction

Patient with moon face, buffalo hump, hyperglycemia, easy bruising, hirsutism, and hypertension

Hydrocortisone, IV fluids and electrolytes

Prevent infection, skin protection, monitor glucose levels, avoid trauma/pressure injuries and psychological support
What is Cushing's Syndrome Interventions?
Severe tachycardia, hyperthermia, HTN, agitation and confusion. Treated with IV fluids & oxygen.

Excess cortisol caused by long-term steroid use

Airway obstruction, hemorrhage, hypocalcemia (damage to parathyroids), thyroid storm

Low PTH, decrease calcium

Patient with hypotension, hyperpigmentation, anorexia, and hyponatremia

Give IV calcium slowly (irritates veins), monitor cardiac rhythm, watch for hypercalcemia after treatment
