Hypothermia, bradycardia, decreased LOC

Low T3 & T4, slowed metabolism

Patient with heat intolerance, weight loss, tachycardia, and exopthalmos

Levothyroxine
What is Hypothyroidism Treatment?
Monitor for thyroid storm, provide high calorie and high protein diet, soft foods for dysphagia
What is Hyperthyroidism Interventions?
Triggered by stress/infections, severe hypotension, extreme weakness, hypoglycemia risk, hyponatremia, hyperkalemia, shock
What is Addisonian Crisis?
Adrenal cortex hypofunction, low cortisol, low aldosterone and often caused by an autoimmune destruction
What is Addison's Disease?
Patient with moon face, buffalo hump, hyperglycemia, easy bruising, hirsutism, and hypertension
What is Cushing's Syndrome?
Hydrocortisone, IV fluids and electrolytes
What is Addison's Disease Treatment?
Prevent infection, skin protection, monitor glucose levels, avoid trauma/pressure injuries and psychological support
What is Cushing's Syndrome Interventions?
Severe tachycardia, hyperthermia, HTN, agitation and confusion. Treated with IV fluids & oxygen.
What is Thyroid Storm?
Excess cortisol caused by long-term steroid use
What is Cushing's Syndrome?
Patient with tetany, positive Chvosek's sign and low calcium
What is Hypoparathyroidism?
Radioactive Iodine is the gold standard
What is Hyperthyroidism Treatment?
Monitor I&O, BP and electrolytes, increase sodium intake, decrease potassium intake, prevent stress and infection, teach emergency hydrocortisone use
What is Addison's Disease Interventions?
Airway obstruction, hemorrhage, hypocalcemia (damage to parathyroids), thyroid storm
What is Post-Thyroidectomy Complications?
Low PTH, decrease calcium
What is Hypoparathyroidism?
Patient with hypotension, hyperpigmentation, anorexia, and hyponatremia

Give IV calcium slowly (irritates veins), monitor cardiac rhythm, watch for hypercalcemia after treatment
What is Hypoparathyroidism Interventions?
Trousseau's sign (wrist spasm), Chvosek sign (facial twitch), tetany, laryngeal stridor (emergency)
