Movement energy is what

Kinetic Energy

100

What is the ability to cause change

Energy

100

What is an apparatus that has constantly changing potential and kinetic energy?

Rollercoaster

100

What does friction create?

Heat or thermal energy

100

List 5 types of energy

Thermal, potential, kinetic, chemical, radiant, electric are all types of energy

200

Stored energy is what

Potential Energy

200

If an object has more speed will it have more or less kinetic energy?

More

200

What is mechanical energy?

It is the sum of kinetic and potential energy together

200

What is a way to prevent or reduce the amount of friction between objects?

Adding a slippery liquid such as WD40 can help reduce the amount of friction between objects.

200

Give an example of a device that transforms electric energy to thermal energy. So what device transforms electrical energy to heat?

Toaster

300

Energy that produces heat is what?

Thermal Energy

300

What is a force that resists the sliding of two surfaces that are touching

Friction

300

Explain what forms of energy change in the use of a microwave. In other words, what energy starts a microwave and what does the energy become

Electrical energy is transformed into radiant energy

300

Is all energy always transferred into a new substance?

No some energy is wasted in the transfer of energy. An example would be the Sun gives energy to plants, but not all that energy is transferred to the animal that eats that plant. The remaining energy transforms into a new type of energy to be used at a different time

300

What energy is caused by vibrations

Sound Energy

400

Energy that comes from the Sun

Radiant Energy

400

Explain how sound waves work

Sound waves vibrate until they hit an object. Once they hit the object the sound bounces back and that is how we are able to hear them

400

Explain how a bike slows down

Pressure is applied to the brakes either through the feet or the handles. The energy travels to the break pads and the pads push up against the wheels. The friction from the pads causes the bike to stop

400

What is energy that is stored in a substance in the form of a compound. Do not confuse this with just normal stored energy

Chemical Energy

400
Gasoline is put into a car for energy. What type of energy is it where the car can use the fuel for energy

The energy is chemical energy. It is stored in the gasoline to be used at a later time

500

What type of energy comes from splitting an atom at the nucleus?

Nuclear Energy

500

Explain what happens in regards of energy to a ball when you throw it up in the air and then it comes back down. Give 5 different points of flight including 1. Right as it is thrown, 2. Going up, 3. Stops at the top, 4 Starts to head down, 5. Right before it hits the ground.

Give the kinetic and potential energy for each stage

1. High kinetic energy, low potential energy

2. Even kinetic and potential energy

3. High potential energy, low kinetic energy

4. Even kinetic and potential energy

5. High kinetic energy, low potential energy

500

Explain what the law of conservation of energy is

Energy can be transformed from one form into another, but energy cannot be created nor destroyed. The energy just goes someplace else

500

When does a rollercoaster have the greatest potential energy? When does it have the greatest kinetic energy?

A rollercoaster has the greatest potential energy as it stops before going down a big hill. It has the most kinetic energy at the bottom of the biggest hill

500

Explain what happens to the life of a battery over time and why it can never fully be 100% after the first charge

The more you charge a battery the shorter the lifespan becomes. Every time you charge a battery it loses a little bit of energy. As the battery loses energy it can not be recovered. This means that the battery will not hold as much of a charge. Eventually the battery will not be able to be charged to hold energy
