Provide a definition of non-renewable resources
non-renewable resources are natural resources that cannot be replaced after they are used.
The following is an example of what type of energy? When you're swinging back and forth on a swing at the park
kinetic, gravitational
Plastic, wood, cloth, paper are...
Insulators
Provide a definition of renewable resources
Renewable resources are replaced naturally and can be used again and again.
What energy transformations occur when you push the button on the remote to turn on the television
Electricity travels from the outlet into the TV and transforms into light and sound energy.
Provide 4 examples of renewable resources
biomass, solar, geothermal, wind, hydro
What is thermal energy?
heat energy
Fossil fuels, coal, natural gas and crude oil are all examples of what?
non-renewable resources
What happens in a parallel if one light goes out?
Others stay on
Name two appliances that transform electrical energy into heat energy
iron, stove, toaster, etc
Name 3 advantages of renewable resources and 2 disadvantages
Advantages:They naturally replenish (won't run out), they are not harmful to the environment (little to no greenhouse gas emissions), there are health benefits for people due to less pollution and emissions.
Disadvantages: power sources such as wind turbines, geothermal generators, solar panels and hydroelectric dams are expensive to produce and install. They operate/work intermittently.
Explain what happen in a simple, series circuit. (Your explanation must include all of the following terms: electrons, power source, wires, light source, conductors, insulators, chemical energy, electrical energy etc.)
electrical energy, in the form of chemical energy is stored in the battery. When the circuit is closed, the electricity flows from the black (negative wire) to the light source. The metal pieces on the light source conduct the electricity and allow the flow of the electrons into the bulb which turns the light on- creating light energy. The electricity travels from the light source through the red wire and back to the positive node of the battery.
