The second law of thermodynamics is
What is States that when an energy conversion occurs (LCE) some of the energy is not used in the system.
• A transformation is never 100% efficient. There is always some wasted thermal energy (heat), because of friction.
• Because heat energy cannot be reused, it is considered to be WASTED. This is also known as an increase in the total disorder of the system (entropy) because the amount of useful energy is reduced .
• The total amount of useful energy used in a system is reduced every time an energy transformaion is made.
EXAMPLE: Weather changes, moving cars, the transfer of a nervous impulse in the body, the LCD projector. When the LCD projector changes its electrical energy into the other forms of energy, you can feel the wasted thermal energy (heat) coming out of the bottom of the machine. Because the thermal energy is not being used by the machine, entropy of the system is increasing.
