An obstruction or something that gets in the way.
What is a hindrance?
The highest point of interest and the turning point of the story.
What is the Climax?
POV where the author’s knowledge is unlimited, knowing thoughts/feelings of every character.
What is Third Person Omniscient?
Harrison Bergeron’s escape from jail in against the "Handicapper General's" ruling.
What is Person vs. Society?
Takes place on a hot, humid day where a couple plays a high-stakes board game.
What is "Death by Scrabble"?
Bringing bad luck or being under a spell; in the story, it refers to the Scrabble tiles having supernatural power.
What is "Jinxed"?
Where the events in the story become complicated and the conflict is first revealed.
What is the Rising Action?
A hint provided early in a story about a major event that will happen later.
What is Foreshadowing?
Narrator in "Death by Scrabble" wanting to kill his wife based upon her mannerisms.
What is Person vs. Person?
Set in the summertime after the American Civil War.
What is "The Flowers"?
A literary device where an object represents a larger, more abstract idea
What is Symbolism?
The stage where events and complications begin to resolve themselves.
What is the Falling Action?
The "truth about the harsh realities of life" as seen from the author’s point of view.
What is the Theme?
The Handicapper General killing Harrison Bergeron and the Ballerina for claiming they are the "Emperor/Empress"
What is person vs. person?
Takes place in darkness, illuminated only by the dim light of the moon through fleecy clouds.
What is "The Sniper"?
Something outstanding or unique of its kind; used by Hazel to describe the intensity of the painful noise signals in George's ear (2).
What is "Doozy"?
The final outcome or the untangling of events in the story.
