Describe the events of the first storm.

In the first storm, Pi goes to the deck to see what is going on. There, a crew members throws Pi into a lifeboat and he lands on the tarpaulin. A zebra follows him and jumps on, breaking a bench. Next, the lifeboat is released into the water and the ship sinks. Pi notices Richard Parker, a tiger, swimming towards him. Pi blows his whistle at Richard Parker and throws him a lifebuoy. Richard Parker grabs a hold of it and Pi helps him board the boat. Pi then comes to and realizes it is a tiger. He then jumps off the ship into the water with the sharks. Finally, he decides to first deal with the Pacific then Tiger, and he pulls himself back onto the lifeboat.

Describe the events at Algea island.

The algae island provides a safe place for Pi and Richard Parker to regain their strength. The island is full of algae, meerkats, and fresh water ponds that provide pools of dead fish. Pi eats algae, swims in the water, and comes back to life. Richard Parker has feasts of meerkats and returns to the boat each night to rest. Eventually, Pi begins to sleep in the trees with the meerkats and that's when he notices something odd about the island. The meerkats run to the trees like they are running away from danger. The next day, Pi finds human teeth wrapped up in a fruit in the trees. He realized, after testing his theory with the meerkats, that is island is carnivorous and each night the ground and water turn into acidic poison. Although, the island brought Pi and Richard Parker back to life, Pi decides they must leave the island if they want to live.
