Summaries are the foundations of many different types of academic work, including annotated bibliographies, research papers, and abstracts.

What structure should the summary have?

Introduction, body paragraphs, conclusion. The first sentence of the summary must include the name of the piece, name of the author, and thesis of the piece. Summarize and paraphrase the important points that support the thesis.

Where should you cite a text that you quoted in a paper?

At the end of the sentence and on the works cited page.

Ex. 

Near the end of the book, the author argues that good paraphrasing "proves you have read material or data carefully" (Lunsford 468).
