Which literary theory is being applied?

Story: 3 Little Pigs
Context: First two pigs quickly built their homes because they were lazy and didn't want to work. The third pig was the opposite and took his time. Look where that got them. Hard work pays off.

Response: I wonder if the person who wrote this story also had two siblings who didn't work as hard as he did.

Biographical Theory

What are the 7 steps in the TPCASTT model?

Title, Paraphrase, Connotation, Attitude, Shift, Title (again), Theme

100

Explain the process (what we do) in the second and third steps of the TPCASTT model.

Paraphrase (step 2) is to put the poem's lyrics into your own words

Connotation (step 3) is to look for words or phrases that have meanings beyond the literal (hidden meanings).

In the exact order, which rhetorical devices are these?

1. Feelings of emotion or passion

2. Logic, using real statistics and data

Reader Response Theory

200

Explain the process (what we do) in the first and sixth step of the TPCASTT model (Title).

First Title = predict what the song will be about

Second time with Title = Seeing if the meaning of it has changed after analyzing the poem

200

Explain the process (what we do) in the fourth and fifth steps of the TPCASTT model.

Attitude (step 4) is to try and figure out how to speaker is feeling.

Shift (step 5) is to analyze the poem for any changes that occur.

Pathos

The reading/literary theory involves us reading the text in the perspective of the female; we have to consider the societal roles that have been given to women when reading the text.

What is the Gender/Female Theory?
300

Which literary theory is being applied?

Quote from an unknown character in a story: "I am powerful, I am strong"

Response 1: If the character is a boy, it sounds like the boy is bragging about his muscles.
Response 2: However, if the character is a girl, it sounds like she is prepping herself mentally for a big moment that is about to happen. OR, maybe she is telling herself this because she got so hurt and is trying to get better.

Gender/Feminist Theory

300

Explain the process (what we do) in the second step of the TPCASTT model (paraphrase).

Context: Billie wasn't as gifted as the other students in class in terms of physical ability, but always gave a fighting effort even when the situation seemed impossible to overcome.

Any, as long as you explained your answer with supporting details.

400

Distinguish the difference between paraphrasing and summarizing. When is it appropriate to summarize the stanzas instead of paraphrasing?

Paraphrasing = to put something in your own words

Summarize = to get the main points and shorten in length

You can summarize when the words of the poem are already easy to understand.

400

Explain the difference between Connotation and Denotation.

Then explain the connotations (positive and negative) of the word "talkative."

Connotation = hidden meaning of a word

Denotation = dictionary definition of a word

Talkative: Means to be chatty, but the connotation can either be annoyingly talkative (negative) or one who is very social (positive).
