Persuasion is about changing people's minds, influencing them,and having them do something because you have influenced them. An argument is about logic and logically attempting to persuade people, often with evidence.

How is tone used
Tone is used in order to write for the proper purpose. It can include academic tone, fearful tone, outraged and various others. A personal tone can also be made with the right wording, such as using ours,us and we.
Contested usage
Ending with a sentence with a preposition, starting with a conjunction, and passive voice being inappropriate generally, are all contested usage because they are used often in modern language and some believe that they are correct to be used.
Why keep in mind audience
Keep audience in mind because they are who will read the information you write. Teachers will prefer much more formal writing as compared to friends.
