What is a Symbol/Symbolism?
The feeling created by a piece of literature that the reader experiences. Ex. Joyful, Mournful
What is mood?
Direct comparison without using "like" or "as" Ex. "The front door is a cage holding us in."
What is a metaphor?
Phrasing that goes beyond the literal meaning of words to get a message or point across.
(Ex: simile, idiom, metaphor, etc)
What is figurative language?
The moral or lesson that the story is trying to teach/convey.
What is theme?
A reference to a person, place, or another work of literature. Ex. Achilles' heel for a weakness or "We're not in Kansas anymore" to reference The Wizard of Oz
What is an allusion?
How a passage is organized. Ex. Compare and contrast, cause and effect, etc.
What is structure/text structure?
The positive or negative feelings/emotions that are associated with a word.
What is connotation?
