What is the central idea or controlling idea or thesis?

What is a Symbol/Symbolism?

When an author is instructing, entertaining, or persuading the reader. Hint: It's easy as PIE...
What is the author's purpose?
Phrasing that goes beyond the literal meaning of words to get a message or point across.
(Ex: simile, idiom, metaphor, etc) SHAMPOO
What is figurative language?
The moral or lesson that the story is trying to teach/convey.
What is theme?
The same sound(s) at the beginning of closely connected words. Ex. "Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled peppers."
What is an alliteration?
How a passage is organized. Ex. Compare and contrast, cause and effect, problem/solution, chronological, etc. (THIS ONE IS challenging!!)
What is structure?
A formal type of poetry which expresses personal emotions or feelings; it is typically written in first person.
What is lyric(al) poetry?
The positive or negative feelings/emotions that are associated with a word.
What is connotation?
The use of a question for persuasion that doesn't really need to be answered by the reader. EX. "Have you lost your mind?"
