A major character who opposes the protagonist in a story or play.

Shows action, a state of being, or links two words together

A particular form of a language which is peculiar to a particular region or social group.
What is dialect?
The repetition of vowel sounds in a sentence.
What is assonance?
Describes a noun
What is an Adjective?
The point at which the action in a story or play reaches its emotional peak.
What is the climax of a story?
Describes a verb
What is an adverb?
The mental and moral qualities distinctive to an individual.
What is character?
The means by which an author establishes character. An author may directly describe the appearance and personality of character or show it through action or dialogue.
What is characterization?
The form of a verb ending in -ing. Is used in forming continuous tenses
What is a present participle?
The repetition of first consonants in a group of words
What is alliteration?
A person or thing that is being discussed, described, or dealt with.
What is subject?
A short and interesting story, often proposed to support or demonstrate some point
What is anecdote?
An idea or feeling that a word invokes in addition to its literal or primary meaning.
What is connotation?
A word that refers either to the participants in the discourse or to someone or something mentioned elsewhere in the discourse EX: I & you
What is a pronoun?
The expression of one’s meaning by using language that conveys a certain idea by saying just the opposite.
What is dramatic irony?
A word used to connect clauses or sentences or to coordinate words in the same clause.
What is a conjunction?
The literal or primary meaning of a word, in contrast to the feelings or ideas that the word suggests.
What is denotation?
A story in which the characters and events are symbols that stand for truths about human life.
What is an allegory?
Describes the relationship between a noun and another group of words in a sentence. Gives information such as direction, time, and place.
What is a preposition?
A comprehensive description and explanation of an idea or theory. In a story, it would be the background information of characters and the setting.
What is exposition?
"the" and "a/an"
What is an article?
The elements that create a plot. It can be internal (within one character) or external (among or between characters, society, and/or nature).
