You should sit in your assigned seat and try it. If you have a serious concern, talk to Ms. Bowen after class or email her anytime explaining why your seat isn't working.
Why is it important to participate with your table and classmates?
Because you don't know what you don't know, because a huge part of life is about learning how to work with others, because we all have unique perspectives that deserve to be heard, because it shows respect to all, etc.
What can you always take home and do to help yourself in this class?
You can always take your binder home and work on reviewing material, annotating work, reviewing notes, completing non summatives, etc!
How do grades work in the Highline school district?
We have standards based grading which means you are assessed on certain grade level standards. These are set by the district. Formative assignments help you practice for the summative assessments and the final grade replaces the previous grade.
What are the norms during discussions?
Why is it important to be on time to class?
Because Ms. Bowen starts with important announcements, because direct instruction happens at the start, because even 5 mins missed each day equals hours of lost class time/work time, etc.
What happens if someone's phone is constantly out and being used during class? (for the student and teacher)
Ms. Bowen will give a reminder, and after that, she will contact home, check in with you after class, ask you to stay after school, or even have you turn it in at the office. Also, the student has probably lost out on learning and participating and work time!

See her at lunch, email her to make an appointment after school, or stop by in the morning anytime after 7:30am.
Explain the difference between summatives and formatives.
Formatives=practice, can re-do, should get feedback from the teacher to help you grow and improve, are essential!!
Summatives=final projects, independent work, cannot re do usually, challenging to achieve an A/4 on without practice (everything builds on itself)
