Our poet spends most of their time praising and saying good things or nice things about the dog but also complains about the actions the dog does, like chewing on shoes and eating biscuits on the bed. For example, "Dear little mutt of mine," shows that she cherishes the dog but then the line, "(For heaven's sake, stop chewing on that shoe!)" shows that she is frustrated with the dog. The owner clearly loves and appreciates the dog but can also be frustrated sometimes by it.
